Boston Park Rangers are established.
1982
Formed originally as a season patrol in the Arnold Arboretum, the program becomes year-round in 1988. A mounted patrol, using horses on loan from the Police Department, starts in 1983 (1982-BHL). The rangers obtain their own horses in the late 1980s. The mounted park ranger program was to end due to budget constraints on June 30, 2010, a year after the police mounted patrol program ended, but contributions from private donors is currently keeping the program going.
